Hach Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Scholarship

Purpose
This program is designed to help recent graduates and current graduate students who have limited professional experience and aim to become high school chemistry teachers.
Program summary
The ACS-Hach Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Scholarship supports individuals preparing for secondary chemistry instruction by providing financial assistance and mentoring. Awardees must be working toward either a master’s degree in education or completion of a teacher certification program in chemistry or science.
What recipients receive
- Financial award: Up to $6,000 per year for full-time study or up to $3,000 per year for part-time study toward completing a master’s in education or a secondary chemistry/science certification. Awards are renewable for as long as three years.
- Ongoing guidance: Mentoring and program support during the recipient’s three-year teaching commitment.
Permitted uses of the scholarship funds
Scholarship payments may be used for tuition, books, room and board, and other education-related costs. Awards cannot be applied retroactively to expenses already incurred.

- 2026 applicant decision date: July 19, 2026
Eligibility requirements
To qualify, applicants must:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in chemistry or a chemistry-related field.
- Have fewer than 12 months of work experience outside of time spent earning undergraduate or graduate degrees.
- Demonstrate a clear commitment to teaching at the secondary (high school) level.
- Be accepted into a master’s program in education or a teacher certification program for secondary chemistry/science.
- Be a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident.
Acceptable chemistry-related fields
Applicants with backgrounds in the following areas are considered eligible:
- Agricultural Chemistry
- Biochemistry
- Ceramic Science / Chemistry / Technology
- Chemical Engineering
- Chemical Technology
- Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering (must be chemistry-focused)
- Forensic Science / Forensic Chemistry
- Food Science (excluding Nutrition)
- Industrial Chemistry
- Materials Science or Petroleum Engineering
- Nanotechnology / Nanoscience
- Paper and Pulp Technology
- Toxicology
If you meet the above criteria and intend to pursue a master’s in education or certification to teach secondary chemistry, you are encouraged to apply beginning February 1, 2026.
