The Missouri Chapter of the APWA is an association of professional engineers, technicians, operations staff, public works directors, business people, contractors, consultants, and others who join together to exchange ideas and information, promote education and training, and work as a team to meet professional and community needs. The St. Louis Branch’s membership comes from the geographic area of Metropolitan St. Louis, Missouri. The Ken Yost Memorial Scholarship is offered in honor of Mr. Ken Yost, Public Works Director of Kirkwood, who lost his life while serving his community.

The St. Louis Branch Ken Yost Memorial Scholarships are awarded annually to two Missouri High School seniors who plan to pursue a degree in a field leading to a career in Public Works including engineering, public administration or other related major. Those individuals must have permanent residence located within the geographic boundary of the Missouri Chapter. These $2,000 scholarships may be used at any accredited college or university.

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:

  • Enroll in an accredited college or university in engineering, public administration or other major leading to a career in Public Works.
  • Be a citizen of the United States or legal immigrant with appropriate valid documentation at the time of application.
  • Currently have permanent residence in the geographic boundary of the Missouri Chapter.
  • Have not previously been awarded the same APWA Missouri Chapter or Branch scholarship being applied for.

Application Procedures:

Submit the following:

  1. Completed APWA Scholarship Application
  2. One Letter of Reference from an Active Missouri APWA Chapter Member or a Personal  Mentor (non-family member: Teacher, Employer, Pastor, Etc.). Up to One Additional Letter of Reference will be accepted. Letters from APWA members given additional weight.
  3. Official Copy of Current High School Transcript

Applications must be received no later than April 1 at 12:00 midnight. Scholarship winners will be notified no later than May 30. Award winners and their guest will be invited to an APWA luncheon in St. Louis, typically held in June. Attendance at the luncheon is encouraged but not required.

Scholarships will be paid upon confirmation of enrollment.
