Overview
The Veterans United Foundation Scholarship helps family members of service members and Veterans pursue higher education. Established in 2012, the program is supported by donations from Veterans United Home Loans and its employees. Since inception, the scholarship has awarded more than $1 million to assist military families across the United States.
Who is eligible
To be considered, an applicant must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- A Veteran with a 100% service‑connected disability rating.
- A surviving spouse of a service member who died as a result of service.
- A surviving child of a service member who died as a result of service.
Enrollment and program requirements
Applicants must either be enrolled or planning to enroll at an accredited college or university for the upcoming semester and be pursuing one of the following credential types: associate’s, bachelor’s, graduate, post‑graduate, or doctoral degree. Applicants should also be willing to share personal background, experiences, and educational goals with Veterans United Foundation.
Documentation (to be provided within three business days of application)
Within three business days of submitting the application, you must be able to supply the following documents, as applicable:
- Military records for the deceased parent or spouse (DD214 plus death certificate, or DD1300).
- An official benefits letter showing your disability rating (if applying as a veteran with a service‑connected disability).
- A completed FAFSA submission.
- Proof of enrollment from your accredited college or university.
- A government‑issued photo ID.
Payment and allowable expenses
To receive scholarship funds, recipients must submit receipts or invoices for qualifying educational expenses as they occur. Eligible expenses include tuition, required books, fees, school supplies and materials, and certain room and board expenses as determined by Veterans United Foundation.
Other conditions
Applicants should be prepared for the possibility of a background check as part of the selection process.
