Overview Applicants must submit a completed application and required documents by February 17, 2025. Proof of acceptance to an accredited Historically Black College or University (HBCU) is also required; acceptance letters may be sent later, through April 11, 2025. The scholarship supports tuition and room and board; recipients may receive additional awards provided total aid does not exceed the cost of attendance. Eligibility To be considered, applicants must: - Be a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident. - Have finished high school or expect to finish with at least a 3.0 GPA on an unweighted 4.0 scale and be entering college as a freshman. - Plan to attend an HBCU for the entire duration of their undergraduate education. - Demonstrate financial need. Required Documents and Deadlines - Submit the completed application by February 17, 2025. - Provide the most recent verifiable high school transcript (transcripts will be subject to authentication). - Provide proof of acceptance to an HBCU. Acceptance letters can be submitted through April 11, 2025; all other application materials must be received by February 17, 2025. Use of Funds Scholarship awards may be applied toward tuition and room and board. Recipients may accept other scholarships, but combined aid cannot exceed the total cost of their education. Conflicts and Questions Applicants are required to disclose any possible conflicts of interest before the selection process begins. Selection and Award Administration The HBCU Week Foundation will manage the intake and review of applications and will assemble external members to serve on the Selection Committee. Applications will undergo an initial automated, quantitative screening. After that, the Selection Committee will evaluate qualitative components, score candidates, and rank applicants. Awards will be given to the highest-scoring candidates according to the number of scholarships available. Recipients will be notified by June 1, 2025 via phone, email, and an official letter. The HBCU Week Foundation, Inc. will disburse scholarship funds to the students’ universities. Recipients must continue to meet the scholarship’s requirements each semester to remain eligible.
