The PHCC—National Auxiliary awards more than $30,000 in scholarships each year, typically distributing over 20 individual scholarships annually. All applicants must obtain a letter of recommendation from a PHCC‑National Auxiliary member.
Overview and purpose
- These funds are intended to help individuals continue their education and career training within the Plumbing, Heating, Cooling, and Refrigeration (PHC‑R) industry. Awards support traditional degree programs and select industry‑specific training or certification courses.
Who is eligible
- Applicants must be either:
- a high school senior, or
- currently enrolled full‑time in an undergraduate program (defined as 12 or more credit hours during the fall semester), or
- enrolled in an accredited education facility or training program that is registered with the U.S. Department of Labor.
- The full‑time enrollment requirement may be waived if:
- the applicant is protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and/or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, or has another verified disability (verification provided by the educational institution), or
- the applicant is attending a vocational‑technical, plumbing, or HVAC training program (industry‑related).
- Funds are restricted to individuals pursuing education or training in the Plumbing, Heating, Cooling, and Refrigeration industry only.
Key scholarships (highlights)
- General Scholarship — National Auxiliary
- Open to high school seniors and students enrolled full‑time in undergraduate programs. Funds are restricted to PHC‑R industry applicants. See detailed rules for full eligibility criteria.
- Bradford White Scholarship
- Applicant must be employed by a PHCC‑National Association contractor member. The chosen educational program must be accredited and registered with the Department of Labor. Restricted to PHC‑R industry applicants.
- Ginny Award
- A special award for applicants with average academic records who intend to enter the nursing profession.
Application deadline for the above scholarships: July 1.
Grow Scholarship — National Auxiliary
- Purpose: Support continuing education for current and prospective PHCC contractor members and their employees in non‑degree, career‑advancing formats (examples: licensing, professional certifications, or short specialized industry programs). Eligible programs must relate to the Plumbing, Heating, Cooling, and Refrigeration industry.
- Application timing and conditions:
- Applications accepted year‑round and reviewed quarterly.
- For PHCC‑offered courses: apply for the Grow Scholarship before attending the course. If selected, the award will be applied as a credit toward the PHCC program cost.
- For non‑PHCC programs: the program must be completed before the scholarship award is issued. Applicants must submit proof of completion (receipt and certificate). The deadline to apply for reimbursement for non‑PHCC programs is one year from the program completion date.
