Introduction
The South Dakota Bankers Foundation awards scholarships to help build the state’s banking workforce and support the Foundation’s mission of developing banking professionals in South Dakota.
Eligibility and candidate selection
- Participating banks must choose a student who is either a South Dakota college sophomore, junior, senior, graduate student, or a second-year student at a South Dakota technical college, and who intends to pursue employment in a banking or financial services organization. Eligible fields of study include, but are not limited to, finance, business, information technology, human resources, marketing, and related areas, provided the student plans a career in banking.

How to request the scholarship
- After selecting a recipient, the bank should notify the Foundation with the student’s name and the school they attend. The Foundation will issue the scholarship payment directly to the educational institution on the student’s behalf. The scholarship request form is available on the SDBA website.
Special conditions and requirements
- Any award given to a bank employee or the child of a bank employee requires prior approval from the Foundation’s Board.
- Recipients must sign a release allowing the Foundation to use their name and likeness.
- The total award amount is $4,000 and may be divided among more than one student.
- Priority will be given to first-time applicants.
- No matching funds are required from the bank.
- If the number of applications exceeds available funds, awards will be prorated so as to assist as many member banks as possible.
