Introduction
The Texas Medical Excellence Scholarship was established by Fort Worth plastic surgeon Dr. Emily J. Kirby to help, uplift, and motivate students in Texas who are pursuing medical education. One $2,500 award is available to qualifying Texas medical students.

How the Award May Be Used
The scholarship is intended to offset tuition and educational costs. Acceptable uses include, but are not limited to, textbooks; study supplies (paper, pens, notebooks, etc.); required technology; campus meal plans; housing; and transportation expenses.

Payment and Tax Responsibility
The scholarship will be paid directly to the recipient as a cash award. The winner is responsible for any tax reporting and liabilities that result from receiving the prize. Awardees are advised to consult a tax professional to ensure proper reporting and compliance.

Who Is Eligible
The scholarship is open to current Texas residents who are actively pursuing education in a medical field. Students working toward MD degrees in the North Texas/DFW area are particularly encouraged to apply.

Applicants must satisfy all of the following:
- Be a current resident of the State of Texas.
- Be an undergraduate or postgraduate student enrolled in a medicine-related program or training pathway at an accredited institution (on-campus or online).
- Submit a completed application form, provide original essay responses (all essays will be reviewed for AI-generated content), and upload a recent professional headshot and one letter of reference that includes valid contact information.
- Agree to allow public announcement of their name and use of their photograph if selected as the winner.

Degrees and Programs That Qualify
Eligible degree programs include, but are not limited to:
- Doctoral-level medical and clinical degrees: MD, DO, DPM, DMD, OD, PsyD, PharmD, DCM, DS, DPT, DSN, DNP
- Nursing credentials: RN, NP, CNM, CRNA
- Master’s-level programs: MPH, MM, MMS, MN, MNA, MPharm, MPAS, MSN, MSM
- Physician assistant credentials: PA, PA-C

2026 Scholarship Timeline
- Monday, June 8 to Monday, June 29: Applications will be reviewed and finalists will be selected by the Scholarship Committee.
- Monday, July 6: The winner will be notified and publicly announced.
