ERC Eco Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Environmental Research Center
Overview
These scholarships offer financial support to graduating high school seniors who plan to pursue higher education in environmental health-related fields. Multiple awards of $1,000 each will be granted to applicants whose past and current activities best reflect a commitment to civic duty and environmental stewardship. Applications are submitted online.
Who may apply
Eligible applicants must meet all of the following:
- Be a graduating high school senior who will enroll in a two- or four-year accredited California college or university and intend to major in an environmental studies/ environmental health program.
- Hold a minimum high school GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale.
- Have completed at least one high school science course beyond the minimum required for graduation.
- Be a United States citizen and a current resident of California.
How to apply
There is no application deadline; scholarships are awarded on an ongoing basis.
Required application materials
1. Completed application form (online submission strongly encouraged).
2. An essay (maximum three double-spaced typed pages). Format requirements: Times New Roman, 12-point font. If you include a reference/bibliography, attach it after the essay — it will not count toward the three-page limit. Do not include images or other graphics in the essay.
3. Between two and four letters of recommendation. At least one recommendation must come from a school faculty member; additional letters should be personal references and cannot be from relatives.
4. Official high school transcript.
Essay focus
Essays should address environmental and health-related topics; beyond that, the subject is open. The committee looks to support students who demonstrate the goals of the Environmental Research Center—showing a strong sense of civic and social responsibility toward environmental issues.

Please note: Failure to follow the application instructions may result in disqualification.
Award use and reporting
Scholarship funds may be applied to necessary educational expenses such as tuition, living costs, books, supplies, university fees, and project-related expenses.
Within six months after the award is disbursed, recipients must submit a brief report (up to one page) to the ERC Eco Scholarship Fund Committee describing their activities and progress.
