William A. Crawford Minority Teacher Scholarship

Overview
The Commission administers teaching scholarships for students who live in, or most recently lived in, certain designated underserved Indiana counties. The counties considered underserved are Allen, Marion, Lake, St. Joseph, and Vanderburgh. Scholarship awardees must sign a written commitment to seek a teaching position in one of these underserved counties and, if hired, to teach there for a minimum of three years.
Note: Senate Enrolled Act (SEA) 289-2025 changed the eligibility requirements for applicants who submit for the first time after June 30, 2025.
Eligibility and Program Requirements (applicants submitting after June 30, 2025)
Applicants for awards made after June 30, 2025 must meet all of the following:
- Have current residency in, or have been residing in, an underserved county immediately before beginning college (underserved counties: Allen, Marion, Lake, St. Joseph, Vanderburgh).
- Be an Indiana resident and be a U.S. citizen or an eligible noncitizen.
- Be admitted to — or already enrolled at — an eligible Indiana postsecondary institution as a full‑time student.
- Be a first‑time undergraduate student.
- Pursue (or intend to pursue) a program of study that will qualify the student, upon graduation and certification, to teach in an underserved Indiana county.
- Sign a written agreement to apply for a teaching position in an underserved county after obtaining teacher certification and, if employed, to teach in that underserved county for at least three years.
- Enroll or plan to enroll full time.
- Maintain the cumulative GPA required for admission to the institution’s school of education.
- Satisfy any additional minimum standards established by the Commission.
- To continue receiving the scholarship, reapply each year and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
How to Apply
- Complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at FAFSA.gov.
- Submit a finished William A. Crawford Minority Teacher Scholarship Application through ScholarTrack by October 1, 2026.
- Create a ScholarTrack student account to access and complete the application. Once logged in, select “Apply for State Aid” to find the scholarship application. You can also go directly to the application (you will be prompted to sign in): https://ScholarTrack.che.in.gov/Portal/#/application/333
