SC HOSA Scholarship Program

Introduction / Program Overview
The SC HOSA Scholarship Program provides financial awards to qualified South Carolina HOSA members who intend to pursue post-secondary education in health science fields. Applications for these scholarships are collected annually and are submitted alongside State Leadership Conference (SLC) registration materials.
In 2025, sixteen students received scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,000 to support their education after high school. The number and value of awards may vary from year to year. Chapters may submit an unlimited number of applications.
All scholarship winners must attend the SLC in person; recipients will be invited onstage during the Opening Session to accept their awards. Award disbursement is contingent on SLC attendance. This scholarship initiative is funded through the generous contributions of our sponsoring partners.
Eligibility (Officer Candidates & Elected State Officers)
All SC HOSA officer candidates and those holding elected state offices must meet the following criteria:
- Have completed at least one full year of HOSA membership at either the Secondary or Postsecondary level.
- Must maintain South Carolina residency through March 20, 2027.
- Be an active participant in their local HOSA chapter.
- Be a SC HOSA-affiliated member with dues paid.
- Academic/program requirements:
- Secondary students: Currently enrolled in, or a state-recognized completer of, a program within the Healthcare & Human Services cluster such as Biomedical Science, EMS, Healthcare Science, Public Health, or Sports Medicine.
- Post-secondary/Collegiate students: Enrolled in an associate or baccalaureate program aligned with any health-related career path.
- Maintain a scholastic average of B or higher for both Spring 2025 and Fall 2025 semesters.
- If an elected officer fails to keep the required grade average, the SC HOSA, Inc. Board of Directors will review the situation to determine whether the individual may continue in office.
- Attend the 2026 State Leadership Conference and present a 60–90 second campaign statement during Opening Session (Wednesday, 3/11/2026).
- Be available for every date specified in the Time Commitment for the Term of Office.
Application Process & Deadlines
1) Complete the online application and upload all supporting documentation by 11:59 p.m. EST on February 1, 2026. Applications received after this deadline will not be considered.
- All materials must be submitted through the SC HOSA website. Paper, faxed, or emailed applications will not be accepted.
- Electronic signatures are not permitted.
2) Applicants will be informed of the nominating committee’s in-person interview schedule on February 15, 2026.
- The in-person interviews are scheduled for March 3, 2026.
Expectations & Responsibilities
- Knowledge assessment: Officer candidates will take a HOSA knowledge test on the day of their interview. A practice test and answer key are available on the SC HOSA website under Student Forms and Resources.
- Conduct: Officers must adhere to the SC HOSA Code of Conduct throughout their term. Breaches of the code can result in removal from office pending review.
- Dress code: Officers and candidates are required to comply with the dress code for designated functions.
- Travel obligations:
- Unless otherwise directed by the SC HOSA State Officer Coaches, flights for ILC and WLA will originate from CAE (Columbia Metropolitan Airport).
- Each state officer is responsible for their own transportation to and from the airport and between SC HOSA event locations for required events.
Important Note
Any elected officer who violates the Code of Conduct, Dress Code, Travel rules, or the “Non-Negotiable” Time Commitment expectations will face a review by the SC HOSA, Inc. Board of Directors to determine whether they may continue serving in their current role.
