Kentucky Youth Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Kentucky Association of Fairs & Horse Shows
Eligibility criteria for the scholarship awards are as follows:
- The candidate should be a young individual who has actively volunteered and participated in the current year's local county fair. The local fair will have the discretion to select these individuals.
- The eligible candidate should either be a high school senior or in their first year of post-secondary education, and should not have turned 21 by October 1st of the application year.
- The nominated youth should be a resident of the county where the nominating fair is held.
- The application process requires the submission of an essay, penned by the applicant, on the topic of "What opportunities have opened up to you since participating/volunteering with your county fair.” The essay should not exceed 500 words.
- Each application should be accompanied by a one-page recommendation letter from the local fair board.
- Only one entry is allowed per fair.
- Six winners will be selected from across the state, with two winners from each zone.
- The awards committee will select the winners through a judging process before the annual meeting.

- The winners will be awarded a $2,000 Cash Scholarship and a plaque.
- The scholarship can only be won once.
- It is advised that the winners attend the annual business meeting in January to receive their scholarship.
Each county fair (that holds events for a minimum of 3 days) can nominate one youth for the scholarship. The scholarship committee will select two youths from each zone based on their completed applications. The awards will be presented at the annual meeting of the Kentucky Fair and Horse Show Association (KAFHS) in January. All applicants will be informed of the results by mail, with winners also being contacted by phone/text.

Entries should be postmarked or emailed by or on October 1st! Late applications will not be considered.
The following must be included with the application:
- A list of any events/classes you participated in at this year’s fair.
- A list of the responsibilities/duties you have undertaken from your first year through this year at your county fair.
- An essay by the applicant: Describe how your personal life skills have been enhanced by your involvement in your local fair activities. (500 words)
- A recommendation letter from a local fair board member (Maximum 1 typed page)
I confirm that the applicant has not previously won this scholarship award and has fulfilled all the above criteria.
