Volunteerism is central to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) purpose of helping veterans achieve higher-quality, more satisfying lives. Whether serving at VA medical centers or supporting veterans in local communities, DAV volunteers have a meaningful impact on the lives of those who served.
Scholarship summary
This college scholarship is available to volunteers who are 21 years of age or younger and who have logged at least 100 volunteer hours credited to DAV or the DAV Auxiliary. Applicants must submit an essay explaining what volunteering for veterans means to them. Candidates may be nominated by anyone, including the student/applicant.
Eligibility
- Age and service: Open to volunteers who are 21 or younger and have completed a minimum of 100 hours credited through DAV or DAV Auxiliary.
- Use of funds: Scholarship awards may be applied at any accredited institution of higher education, including universities, colleges, community colleges, and vocational schools.
- Deadline for use: The full scholarship amount must be used before the recipient turns 25, or within six years of the award—whichever of those two dates occurs later.
- Who may nominate: Nominations may come from the applicant themself, Voluntary Service Program Managers at VA medical centers, members of DAV departments and chapters, or friends and family.

Additional service time can be earned at VA medical centers and through the Local Veterans Assistance Program (LVAP). All volunteer hours must be credited to Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Visit the DAV website or your local VA facility online to find available volunteer opportunities.
