Arkansas Military Book Scholarships

The University of Arkansas provides scholarship support for students who are current or former members of the U.S. military and for their dependents.
Military Book Scholarship
- Open to students in any major. Awards are limited to students currently enrolled at the University of Arkansas. The program typically grants about 10 one-year scholarships, each worth up to $1,000.
Submission window
- January 1 through February 15 each year (deadline: 11:59 p.m. CST).
Eligibility
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following:
- Be a current or former member of the United States armed forces, OR be a dependent (spouse or child) of a current or former member; and
- Have documentation of military affiliation on file with the Veteran and Military-Affiliated Student Center; and
- Have a current Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file or submit a new/updated FAFSA. (Note: having a FAFSA on file does not change any VA or military educational benefits.); and
- Intend to enroll as a degree-seeking full-time undergraduate student (12 credit hours) for the upcoming academic year, OR intend to enroll as a degree-seeking graduate student with at least 6 credit hours for the upcoming academic year; and
- ROTC cadets are ineligible unless they are prior-service members and can verify their service with VRIC.
Selection process
- Applications are reviewed by the Military Scholarship Committee within the Academic Scholarship Office. The committee evaluates academic record, résumé, essay, and financial need. Selection is based on a combination of factors including academic achievement and potential, demonstrated financial need, campus and community involvement, lack of other educational benefits, and projected time to degree completion.
How to apply
1. Follow the Academic Scholarship Office’s instructions for completing the General Application.
2. Do not mail or hand-deliver any military documentation to the Academic Scholarship Office. All proof of military service or affiliation must be recorded with the Veteran and Military-Affiliated Student Center (Garland Center, Suites 115–16, 640 N. Garland Avenue). Phone: 479-575-8742.
3. Submit the completed General Application through the AcademicWorks system.
4. Complete the online application by signing in with your UARK ID and password to the "AcademicWorks – University of Arkansas" portal. Through AcademicWorks you can upload materials, save and return to your application, monitor its status, and accept any scholarship offers.
- Incoming students (undergraduate or graduate) must first apply for admission and obtain their UA username, password, and @uark.edu email address before accessing AcademicWorks.
